Trout can be aggressive, but they can also get picky fast. Current speed, light level, fishing pressure, water color, and how the bait falls all matter. A bait that looks good on a shelf does not always fish right when it is drifting through a seam or hanging in front of a trout that has already seen plenty.
The right soft-plastic profile lets you adjust. A slim bait can drift naturally. A ribbed body can add presence and texture. A split tail or taper can keep moving with very little rod action.
